Mitral repair has been widely used in the treatment of secondary mitral lesions in recent years. Hemolytic anemia is known to be a rare complication after mitral repair. This study aimed to investigate the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical hemolysis after mitral repair in adults. In this retrospective study, we reviewed the medical records of patients undergoing mitral repair complicated with mechanical hemolysis at our institution between August 2006 and May 2020. Twenty-four patients undergoing mitral repair complicated with mechanical hemolysis were included in the study. They were divided into two groups the reoperation group (patients who underwent reoperation; N = 18) and the conservative treatment group (patients who received symptomatic treatments, including blood transfusion, diuresis, alkalization of urine, liver protection, hemodialysis, and oral metoprolol; N = 6. All patients in the reoperation group underwent mitral valve replacement. There were six hospital deaths, all in the conservative treatment group. Seventeen of eighteen patients (94.4%) completed follow up. Fifteen of seventeen survivors (88.2%) were in NYHA class I and 11.8% (2/17) in NYHA class II at the last time follow up. Hemolysis is a sign of failure of mitral repair. Reoperation is the best choice once the hemolysis has been diagnosed. Reoperation should be carried out as soon as possible.Hemolysis is a sign of failure of mitral repair. Reoperation is the best choice once the hemolysis has been diagnosed. Preoperative neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) values have a prognostic value for postoperative ARF after cardiovascular surgeries. Patients who underwent elective coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) with cardiopulmonary bypass in our clinic between December 15, 2015 and December 15, 2019, retrospectively were included in this study. Patients who did not develop ARF after the operation were categorized as Group 1, and patients who did were included in Group 2. NLR was calculated from the hemograms during three periods (Preoperative (Pre), Postcardiotomy (Pc), Postoperative Day 1 (Po1). DeltaNLR1 (PcNLR- PreNLR) and DeltaNLR2 (Po1NLR-PreNLR) values were obtained from these calculated values. The mean ages of patients in Group 1 (N = 274) and Group 2 (N = 61) were 60 ± 9.1 years and 67.7 ± 9.8 years, respectively (P < .001). In the multivariate analysis, being over 65 years of age (Odds ratio [OR] 1.074, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.012-1.194, P = .030), postoperative inotropic need (OR 0.678, CI 95% 0.395-0.819, P = .021), increased blood product use (OR 0.916, CI 95% 0.779-0.986, P = .034), preoperative creatinine increase (OR 1.974, CI 95% 1.389-4.224, P = .007), PcNLR (OR 1.988, CI 95% 1.765-3.774, P <.001), Po1NLR (OR 1.090, CI 95% 1.007-2.116, P = .028), DeltaNLR1 (OR 3.090, CI 95% 1.698-6.430, P < .001) and DeltaNLR2 (OR 1.676, CI 95% 1.322-2.764, P = .003) were identified as independent predictors for predicting postoperative ARF. In this study, we have shown that peroperative NLR changes can be used as an effective parameter to predict ARF developing following CABG operations. In this study, we have shown that peroperative NLR changes can be used as an effective parameter to predict ARF developing following CABG operations. Left posterolateral incision has been a conventional incision for patent ductus arteriosus ligation. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of left axillary thoracotomy for patent ductus arteriosus ligation. Between January 2013 and December 2019, the clinical data of 76 patients who underwent left axillary thoracotomy for patent ductus arteriosus ligation were compared with the data of a paired group of 101 patients who underwent left posterolateral thoracotomy. Compared with the left posterolateral group, the left axillary group showed less drainage (P < 0.05). Operation time, postoperative mechanical ventilation time, and postoperative hospitalization duration were similar between the groups. Complications were rare in both groups with no mortality during follow up. In total, 72 patient families (95%) in the left axillary group and 81 patient families (80%) in the left posterolateral group were satisfied with their cosmetic results (P < 0.01). A left axillary thoracotomy is as safe and effective as a left posterolateral thoracotomy for patent ductus arteriosus ligation. With lower trauma and better cosmetic results, this procedure provides a good alternative to the standard left posterolateral thoracotomy.A left axillary thoracotomy is as safe and effective as a left posterolateral thoracotomy for patent ductus arteriosus ligation. The coronary arteries, which have to originate from the aorta, may sometimes rise from the pulmonary artery. This study evaluated clinical and diagnostic findings, treatment methods, and follow up of cases with anomalous coronary arteries arising from the pulmonary artery. Eight patients with the diagnosis of anomalous left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery (ALCAPA) (N = 6) and anomalous right coronary artery from the pulmonary artery (ARCAPA) (N = 2), between January 2014 and January 2020 from a single center university hospital, were included in the study. Data from patients' demographic characteristics, electrocardiography, echocardiography, angiographic findings, operation, hospitalization, and follow up were evaluated. The study included eight patients (six females and two males) - six patients with ALCAPA and two with ARCAPA. The ages of the patients ranged between 3-135 (average 53.25) months. The median body weight was calculated as 17.4 kg. Severe mitral valve insufficiency was detectedALCAPA or ARCAPA, where the coronary artery originates from the pulmonary artery. Patients should be treated before congestive heart failure and fatal complications occur. Telacebec nmr Surgical correction should be planned regardless of symptom status, even though some of patients reach adulthood with an increased number of collaterals.
