Since it is suggested that the combination of conventional antifungals with lipid rafts-disrupting compounds is a powerful antifungal approach, our data will help to pave the way for the use of bLf alone or in combination for the treatment/eradication of clinically and agronomically relevant yeast pathogens/fungi.The water-soluble non-starch polysaccharides isolated from natural resources have become research hotpots in the field of food science and human health due to widely distributed in nature and low toxicity. It has indicated that the health-promoting effect of water-soluble non-starch polysaccharides were partly attributable to against excessive oxidative stress. Indeed, excessive oxidative stress in the body has been reported in occurrence of disease. The water-soluble non-starch polysaccharides from natural resources exhibit antioxidant activity to against oxidative stress via scavenging free radicals promoting antioxidant enzymes activity and/or regulating antioxidant signaling pathways. In this review, the water-soluble non-starch polysaccharides as medicine agent and the factor affecting antioxidant as well as the relationship between oxidative stress and disease are summarized, and the mechanisms of water-soluble non-starch polysaccharides therapy in disease are also discussed. It will provide a theoretical basis for natural polysaccharides used for the treatment of diseases.Previously we developed and characterized a novel hydrogel film wound dressing containing Sodium Alginate and Pectin loaded with Simvastatin with multi-functional properties. This study investigated the in-vivo efficacy of the developed wound dressing on type I diabetic wound model. Experiments were performed on male Wistar rats for the period of 21-days. Animals developed diabetes after intraperitoneal injection (50 mg/kg) of Streptozotocin then randomly divided into different groups. On days 7, 14, and 21 of post-wounding, animals were euthanized and the wounds tissue were harvested for analysis. The wound healing rate, hematology and histological analysis, hydroxyproline assay, and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A measurements were noted. The results revealed that the wound dressing healed the wounded area significantly (p less then 0.05) higher than the control after 21-day treatment and wound closure was ~99% without any adverse systemic reactions. Histological analysis qualitatively revealed an enhanced re-epithelialization and collagen deposition. Moreover, results also showed an improved rate of collagen synthesis and angiogenesis in the group treated with the hydrogel film loaded with Simvastatin. Thus, the present study demonstrated that developed film holds great potential for the acceleration of diabetic wound healing by its pro-angiogenic effect, faster re-epithelialization and increased collagen deposition.The active emulsified blend films based on gelatin-pectin (5% w/w) containing virgin olive oil (VOO) (0.1-0.3 g/g biopolymer) and grape seed oil (GSO) (0.1-0.3 g/g biopolymer) were prepared by casting method. GSO showed slightly more decreasing effect than VOO on ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and strain at break (SAB) of blend films however; VOO had more reducing effect than GSO on the water vapor permeability (WVP). The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images showed that incorporating 0.3 g GSO and VOO oils had not considerable effect on the morphology of the emulsified films. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) topography images indicated that adding of oils considerably could increase roughness of emulsified film. Fourier transforms infrared (FTIR) revealed that no new chemical bond formed by adding oils into biopolymer matrix. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of VOO, GSO and Savory essential oil (SEO) against four important spoilage bacteria showed that GSO had higher antibacterial effect than VOO however; both showed very lower antimicrobial effect than SEO. All active films showed lower inhibitory zone for S. aureus than S. typhimurium and P. fluorescence. The chicken breast fillets wrapped in the films containing VOO-GSO-SEO (0.15-0.15-0.02 g/g polymer) showed considerably lower total viable count (TVC), Pseudomonas spp., Enterobacteriaceae, E. coli 157H7 and S. typhimurium count than the control one during 12 days storage. Also, it caused significant decrease in peroxide value (PV), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) of fillet samples.A water-soluble polysaccharide (LCP-05) was isolated from the flowers of Leucosceptrum canum Smith. LCP-05 was an acidic polysaccharide with a molecular weight of approximately 8.9 kDa. Monosaccharide composition analysis indicated that LCP-05 was composed of Man, Rha, GlcA, GalA, Glc, Gal and Ara in a molar ratio of 0.831.680.332.151.001.451.22. In the present study, we reported the discovery and characterization of a multifunctional enzyme BSGH13 from Bacillus subtilis BS-5. Subsequently, we analyzed the effects of aromatic residues substitution at each site of the active site architecture on ligand-binding affinity and catalytic specificity of BSGH13 by a combination of virtual mutation and site-directed mutagenesis approaches. Our results indicated that the introduction of aromatic amino acids Phe or Trp at the positions L182 and L183 altered the local interaction network of BSGH13 towards different substrates, thus changing the multifunctional properties of BSGH13. Moreover, we provided an expanded perspective on studies of multifunctional enzymes.
