Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of mortality in Australian women. We identified gender differences in healthy lifestyle adherence in patients treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for CAD. Consecutive patients were prospectively recruited from three Australian institutions (2016-2017). The primary endpoint at 1 year follow-up was healthy lifestyle adherence defined as 3/3 of a heart-healthy diet, being physically active and not smoking. Secondary endpoints included cardiac rehabilitation attendance, medication use and lipid levels. From 729 participants (n=192, 26.3% women) 56% were adherent to all three lifestyle measures with no gender difference overall. Compared to men, women were less likely to smoke (7.7% versus 12.2%, p<0.001) to be physically active (61.5% versus 78.2%; p<0.0001), attend cardiac rehabilitation (58.2% versus 66.4%; p<0.045), and take statin therapy (85.4% versus 94.7%; p<0.0001). Female gender independently predicted physical inactivity (OR 2.41, 95% CI 1.57-3.68, p<0.001). Moreover, disease pathophysiology differs between the sexes, with women more likely to suffer from microvascular coronary disease, endothelial dysfunction and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, as compared to men, who are more likely to experience macrovascular disease or heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. Evidence suggests that both traditional and novel cardiovascular risk factors are often under-recognised and under-treated in women. Certain 'traditional' risk factors, including diabetes mellitus and smoking, may also portend a greater risk of cardiovascular disease in women than men. Furthermore, a number of female-specific risk factors have been identified as increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease in women, including pre-term delivery, pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, and polycystic ovary syndrome. Currently, these factors are not included in primary prevention risk stratification tools, nor are they routinely considered in a cardiovascular assessment at a clinical level. This represents a missed opportunity, as early identification may allow for risk factor modification and possible amelioration of the disease burden. To validate an email-based patient-reported outcomes tracking system in assessing pad-free continence rates and time-to continence recovery following RP. 483 men undergoing RP by a single surgeon from November 2013 to March 2019 were prospectively assigned to 1 of 3 tracking systems 1) a preaddressed paper packet containing a pad-free card and daily urinary pad log, (N = 249); 2) an automated email questionnaire, (N = 234) or 3) both (N = 51). To compare the clinical presentation, treatment receipt, and oncologic outcomes between human immunodeficiency virus-seropositive (HIV+) and seronegative (HIV-) men with prostate cancer (CaP) matched by age, clinical stage, and race. A retrospective review of 3,135 men treated for CaP from 2000 to 2016 was performed. HIV+ patients (N = 46) were matched 12 to 3 to HIV- men (N = 137) by age, race, and clinical stage. Clinicopathologic features and primary treatment received were compared between cohorts. Associations between HIV status and progression-free, cancer-specific, and overall survival were compared by HIV status using the Kaplan-Meier method and Cox proportional hazards analysis. After matching, men with and without HIV were similar with respect initial prostate-specific antigen, Gleason Sum, and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status. Among HIV+ men, 67.4% had a history of acquired immune deficiency syndrome, and 91.3% were on highly active antiretroviral therapy at CaP diagnosis.
