In both species, as relative volumes of the optic lobe increased, the relative volume of the antennal lobe decreased. Although photoperiodism has been well studied in Chordata and Arthropoda, less is known about Mollusca. We examined photoperiodic effects on egg laying, body size, gonad-somatic index, oocyte size and relative amounts of caudodorsal cell hormone mRNA in individual rearing conditions in the pond snail Lymnaea stagnalis. Twenty-five weeks after hatching, the percentages of egg-laying snails under a photoperiod of 12 h light and 12 h darkness (12L12D) were significantly smaller than those under longer days. The total numbers of eggs and egg masses under 12L12D were significantly smaller than those under longer days. Significant differences between 16L8D and 12L12D were not observed in the soft body and ovotestis weight, and the gonad-somatic index. Photoperiodic effects were also not observed in oocyte diameters twenty-two weeks after hatching. Twenty-seven weeks after hatching amounts of caudodorsal cell hormone mRNA were significantly lower in the cerebral ganglia with commissure under 12L12D than 16L8D. L. stagnalis exhibited a clear photoperiodic response in egg laying and the amount of caudodorsal cell hormone mRNA, but not in gonadal development. Under 12L12D suppression of caudodorsal cell hormone expression might suppress egg laying. Different approaches are applied for reconstruction in patients with a musculoskeletal malignancy which require a proximal femoral or total femoral resection. We aimed to evaluate the treatment outcomes of patients who underwent a proximal femoral or total femoral resection due to bone and soft tissue tumors and had an endoprosthetic reconstruction by a bipolar hemiarthroplasty type of hip articulation. We retrospectively identified 133 patients who underwent a proximal femoral or total femoral endoprosthetic replacement after resection of a bone or soft tissue malignancy. There were 74 male and 59 female patients, with a mean age of 55.02 ± 16.92years (range 11-84years) and a median follow-up of 24.47 ± 24.45months (range 6-164months). Patient demographics, surgical, and oncological data were recorded. Acetabular wear was measured using the classification proposed by Baker. Functional assessment was performed using the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS) functional score. The objective of the study was to investigate any association between TA and AVN, including the possible pathogenic effect of glucocorticoid (GCs) use. The study design was retrospective and cross sectional. TA patients were enrolled in the study. Demographic variables, disease activity, treatments, physician global assessment, Indian Takayasu Clinical activity score 2010, and Kerr criteria were recorded. find more Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify predictors of AVN. A total of 29 patients were assessed. AVN was observed in four (13.8%) patients with TA. Male gender and elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) were found to be significantly associated with AVN (p = 0.001 and p = 0.006, respectively). While type IIb TA was more common in patients with AVN (n = 2, 50%), type V was more likely in the absence of AVN (n = 13, 52%). Descending aorta and thoracic aorta were usually involved in patients with AVN (both, n = 3, 75%). In multivariate logistic regression, increased CRP levels were the only predictor for AVN (OR = 1.183, 95% Cl = 1.025-1.364, p = 0.021). The present study found that higher CRP levels and male gender were associated with AVN in patients with TA.A 77-year-old man with past medical history of granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) on rituximab and prednisone, presented to the hospital with worsening cough and shortness of breath. He had tested positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection by nasal swab polymerase chain reaction (PCR) while asymptomatic, 6 weeks earlier. He started with cough and shortness of breath 2 weeks after his initial positive test. After developing symptoms, he tested negative twice by nasal swab PCR, but the PCR of his bronchioloalveolar lavage was positive for SARS-CoV-2. He did not develop antibodies against coronavirus. Prednisone 15 mg daily was continued, and he received remdesivir, and convalescent plasma with quick recovery. We reviewed the literature to search for similar cases. Our case suggests that SARS-CoV-2 infection in patients on rituximab may have an atypical presentation and the diagnosis may be delayed due to negative PCR testing in the nasal swab. Patients may benefit from treatment with convalescent plasma.Tissue inflammation and damage with the abnormal and overactivation of innate immune system results with the development of a hereditary disease group of autoinflammatory diseases. Multiple numbers of DNA damage develop with the continuous exposure to endogenous and exogenous genotoxic effects, and these damages are repaired through the DNA damage response governed by the genes involved in the DNA repair mechanisms, and proteins of these genes. Studies showed that DNA damage might trigger the innate immune response through nuclear DNA accumulation in the cytoplasm, and through chronic DNA damage response which signals itself and/or by micronucleus. The aim of the present review is to identify the effect of mutation that occurred in DNA repair genes on development of DNA damage response and autoinflammatory diseases.
