ion wells would be 0.26 mg/L and 1.33 mg/L, respectively, after 3 years of model operation. This study provides a theoretical basis for drinking-groundwater source protection that can be applied to safety management practices.Fungal-bacterial associations are present in nature, playing important roles in ecological, evolutionary and medicinal processes. Here we report a fungus-bacterial symbiont from marine sediment. The bacterium lives inside the fungal mycelium yet is robust enough to survive independent of its host; the independently grown bacterium can infect the fungal host in vitro and continue to grow progenitively. The bacterial symbiont modulates the fungal host to biosynthesize a polyketide antimicrobial, spiromarmycin. Spiromarmycin appears to endow upon the symbiont pair a protective/defensive means of warding off competitor organisms, be they prokaryotic or eukaryotic microorganisms. Genomic analyses revealed the spiromarmycin biosynthetic machinery to be encoded, not by the bacterium, but rather the fungal host. This unique fungal-bacterial symbiotic relationship and the molecule/s resulting from it dramatically expand our knowledge of marine microbial diversity and shed important insights into endosymbionts and fungal-bacterial relationships. To examine the prospective associations between total cholesterol (TC) variability and cognitive function in a large sample of Chinese participants aged 45 years and above. A total of 6,377 people who participated in the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) were included. TC variability was defined as the intra-individual standard deviation over two blood tests in CHARLS 2011 and 2015 (Wave 1 and Wave 3). Cognitive function was assessed by a global cognition score, which included three tests episodic memory, figure drawing and Telephone Interview of Cognitive Status (TICS). Multivariate linear regression models (MRLMs) and generalized estimating equation (GEE) were used to investigate associations between TC variability and cognitive scores. After adjusting for potential confounders, male participants with higher visit-to-visit TC variability showed lower global cognition scores (β = - 0.71, P less then 0.001). After further adjustment for baseline cognition, the association remained statistically significant (β = - 0.68, P less then 0.001). The domains with declines were focused on episodic memory (β = - 0.22, P = 0.026) and TICS (β = - 0.44, P = 0.004). However, these associations were not found in women (β = - 0.10, P = 0.623). For men, the rates of decline in global cognition increased by 0.14 (β = - 0.14, P = 0.009) units per year while TC variability increased by 1 mmol/L. For males, higher visit-to-visit TC variability correlated with lower cognitive function and an increased rate of decreases in memory. More attention should be paid to cognitive decline in males with high TC variability, and particularly, on decreases in memory, calculation, attention and orientation. In the era of hyper-ageing, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) can become more prevalent as an important cause of dementia. This study aimed to evaluate the trends in crude and age-adjusted CJD-associated mortality and incidence rates in Japan using national vital statistics data on CJD-associated deaths among individuals aged over 50 years, as well as the government-funded nationwide CJD surveillance data (pertaining to the years 2005-2014) in Japan. The data were analysed using the Joinpoint Regression Program to estimate the long-term trends and average annual percentage changes (AAPCs). Overall, the AAPCs of age-adjusted CJD-associated mortality rates rose significantly over the study period (3.2%; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.4-5.1%). The AAPC of the age-adjusted incidence rates also increased (overall 6.4%; 95% CI 4.7-8.1%). The CJD-associated increases in the mortality and incidence rates were especially prominent among adults over the age of 70 years. Given this trend in aging of population, the disease burden of CJD will continue to increase in severity. Our findings thus recommend that policymakers be aware of the importance of CJD and focus on preparing to address the increasing prevalence of dementia. This study aimed to describe the landscape of Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs)-related adverse events (AEs) in a predominantly Chinese cohort. We searched electronic datasets including PubMed, Web of Science and Embase to identify and recruit relevant trials up to September 2, 2019. Clinical trials focusing on ICIs in Chinese patients or a predominantly Chinese population were included. C381 cost Incidences of treatment-related AEs (TRAEs) and immune-related AEs (irAEs) were pooled and compared. In total, we recruited 13 trials consisting of 1063 patients, with 922 (86.7%) receiving ICI monotherapy and 141 (13.3%) receiving combination of ICI with chemotherapy or anti-angiogenesis. The pooled incidence of any grade TRAEs, grade 1-2, grade 3-5 TRAEs, any grade irAEs, grade 1-2 irAEs and grade 3-5 irAEs in all 1063 patients were 84.1%, 63.3%, 20.9%, 43.3%, 40.0% and 3.0%, respectively. Moreover, 4.3% (44/1018) of patients experienced treatment discontinuation and only 8 (0.8%) patients experienced treatment-related death. Compared to ICI monotherapy, combination significantly increased grade 3-5 TRAEs (46.1% vs. 17.0%, P less then 0.001) and grade 3-5 irAEs (7.1% vs. 2.0%, P = 0.015). By comparing the toxicity profiles between different ICIs, we found some drug-specific AEs such as reactive capillary haemangiomas for camrelizumab (58.6%), hyperglycemia for toripalimab (55.6%) and pyrexia for tislelizumab (54.3%). Additionally, nivolumab has the lowest incidence of any grade (64.1%) and grade 3-5 (11.8%) TRAEs. ICI-related AEs were generally mild and tolerable for a predominantly Chinese cohort. However, we should pay attention to the combination of ICI with chemotherapy as it could increase grade 3-5 TRAEs and irAEs.Creativity pervades many areas of everyday life and is considered highly relevant in several human living domains. Previous literature suggests that the posterior parietal cortex (PPC) is related to creativity. However, none of previous studies have compared the effect of transcranial random noise stimulation (tRNS) over bilateral PPC on both verbal and visual divergent thinking (DT) and Remote Associates Test (RAT) in the same experimental design. Forty healthy participants were randomly assigned to tRNS (100-500 Hz) over bilateral PPC or sham group, for 15 min and current was set at 1.5 mA. Participants' creativity skills were assessed before and after brain stimulation with the Unusual Uses and the Picture Completion subtests from the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking and the RAT. ANCOVA (baseline scores as covariate) results indicated that tRNS group had significantly higher scores at post-test in RAT and visual originality compared to sham group. Unusual Uses, on the other hand, was not significant. Improvement in RAT suggests the involvement of PPC during via insight solution which may reflect internally directed attention that helps the recombination of remotely associated information.
