Finally, several "privileged synthetic strategies" for "privileged polycyclic scaffolds" are summarized, with discussion of remained challenges and future perspectives.Synthesis of semiconductor-MOF heterostructure photocatalysts has attracted considerable attention for their thermal stability, controllable crystallinity, and enhanced photocatalytic activity. In this work, the hollow nanostructure of anatase TiO2 was prepared by etching SiO2 from core-shell SiO2@TiO2 nanoparticles. ZIF-8, one of the metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), was hybrid synthesized on the surface of hollow TiO2 and formed double-shell hollow nanoparticles. The photocatalytic activity of the double-shell hollow TiO2@ZIF-8 nanoparticles toward methylene blue (MB) under UV light irradiation was processed, and the highest photocatalytic efficiency of 99.1% was shown compared with TiO2 and SiO2@TiO2 nanoparticles. This study suggests a promising approach to achieve an advanced photocatalytic performance toward dye degradation using MOFs for the surface engineering of semiconductors.A series of donor-acceptor (D-A) tricoordinated organoboron derivatives (1-10) have been systematically investigated for thermally activated delayed fluorescent (TADF)-based organic light-emitting diode (OLED) materials. The calculated results show that the designed molecules exhibit small singlet-triplet energy gap (ΔEST) values. Density functional theory (DFT) analysis indicated that the designed molecules display an efficient separation between donor and acceptor fragments because of a small overlap between donor and acceptor fragments on HOMOs and LUMOs. Furthermore, the delayed fluorescence emission color can be tuned effectively by introduction of different polycyclic aromatic fragments in parent molecule 1. The calculated results show that molecules 2, 3, and 4 possess more significant Stokes shifts and red emission with small ΔEST values. Nevertheless, other molecules exhibit green (1, 7, and 8), light green (6 and 10), and blue (5 and 9) emissions. Meanwhile, they are potential ambipolar charge transport materials except that 4 and 10 can serve as electron and hole transport materials only, respectively. Therefore, we proposed a rational way for the design of efficient TADF materials as well as charge transport materials for OLEDs simultaneously. In this study the application of porous carbon microparticles for the transport of a sparingly soluble material into cells is demonstrated. Carbon offers an intrinsically sustainable platform material that can meet the multiple and complex requirements imposed by applications in biology and medicine. Porous carbon microparticles are attractive as they are easy to handle and manipulate and combine the chemical versatility and biocompatibility of carbon with a high surface area due to their highly porous structure. The uptake of fluorescently labeled microparticles by cancer (HeLa) and normal human embryonic Kidney (HEK 293) cells was monitored by confocal fluorescence microscopy. In this way the influence of particle size, surface functionalization and the presence of transfection agent on cellular uptake were studied. In the presence of transfection agent both large (690 nm) and small microparticles (250 nm) were readily internalized by both cell lines. However, in absence of the transfection agent the uptake was influenced by particle size and surface PEGylation with the smaller nanoparticle size being delivered. The ability of microparticles to deliver a fluorescein dye model cargo was also demonstrated in normal (HEK 293) cell line. Taken together, these results indicate the potential use of these materials as candidates for biological applications. The thermal battery has been designed to be active at high temperature to satisfy storage life and large capacity for storage and emergency power. The development of thermal battery with high specific energy requires that the cathode has high thermal stability and excellent conductivity. Here, the semiconductor material Li-Cu-O compounds LiCu2O2 and LiCu3O3 are synthesized by a simple solid-phase sintering technique, which is simpler than the traditional synthesis process. The thermal decomposition temperatures are 680°C and above 900°C, respectively. This work first applies the Li-Cu-O compounds to the thermal battery. With a cutoff voltage of 1.5 V, the specific capacities of LiCu2O2 and LiCu3O3 are 423 and 332 mA h g-1. Both the decomposition temperature and specific capacity are higher than in the commercial FeS2 and CoS2, especially LiCu2O2. This work affords an alternative of the cathode materials for high specific capacity thermal battery.Ovarian cancer is a gynecological cancer from which it is difficult to be completely cured. It is common to use regimens as an effective treatment for ovarian cancer, but these inevitably bring serious side effects. New treatment strategies and special drugs are needed to improve the prognosis of patients. Celastrol is a natural product, isolated from traditional medicine, that has been proven to be curative for inflammation and cancers. However, the non-targeting and low solubility of celastrol limit its clinical application. We prepared celastrol-loaded nanoparticles for the efficient treatment of ovarian cancer via oxidative stress amplification. In this work, a tumor-targeted, ROS-sensitive nanoparticle was designed, synthesized, and assembled into a drug delivery system that used celastrol. Folic acid (FA) groups on the surface of nanoparticles guide them to actively target the surface of the tumor cell membrane. Thioketal (TK) bonds in nanoparticles can be oxidized and broken into -SH within the ROS level of tumor tissues, which causes the breaking of the PEG hydrophilic shell layer of nanoparticles and promotes the release of celastrol. The released celastrol further stimulated the production of ROS and amplified the intracellular ROS level to promote the apoptosis of tumor cells, thus achieving a therapeutic effect on the celastrol treated ovarian cancer. This work presents the preparation of an efficient and sensitive glucose sensor for the detection of glucose in an alkaline media. The glucose sensor is composed of a metal organic framework (MOF) composite comprising Ag@TiO2 nanoparticles. The hybrid of Ag@TiO2 encapsulated in ZIF-67 was synthesized by the solvothermal method and applied onto a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for the non-enzymatic sensing of glucose. The porosity of ZIF-67 was favorable for the unhindered diffusion and entrapment of glucose and its cavities served as reaction vessels. The electrochemical behavior of Ag@TiO2@ZIF-67 showed amplified results when compared with that of Ag@TiO2 and ZIF-67. learn more Cyclic tests toward the oxidation of glucose has demonstrated excellent stability of a MOF-based hybrid sensor. The sensor based on Ag@TiO2@ZIF-67 showed high sensitivity of 0.788 μAμM-1cm-2 with a linear concentration range of 48 μM-1 mM and a response time of 5 s with an excellent detection limit of 0.99 μM (S/N = 3).
