We present the case of a 92-year-old woman, with bullous pemphigoid (BP) and a concomitant nevus comedonicus (NC) presenting as an asymptomatic, linear lesion of the entire lower left limb, formed by multiple comedones. Dermoscopy of the NC and histopathology confirmed the clinical and dermoscopic suspect of giant congenital nevus comedonicus. The two entities presented no overlap. In this article, we speculate that a mutation of the NEK9 gene, associated with NC, probably altering the normal follicular differentiation in NC lesions, may hypothetically also influence the expression of BPAG2 in NC. This might possibly influence a protective role of NC lesions towards BP. Undoubtedly, genetic studies would be needed to confirm or reject the proposed hypothesis.Chiral Lewis acid-catalyzed asymmetric alcohol addition reactions to cyclic carbonyl ylides generated from N-(α-diazocarbonyl)-2-oxazolidinones featuring a dual catalytic system are reported. Construction of a chiral quaternary heteroatom-substituted carbon center was accomplished in which the unique heterobicycles were obtained in good yields with high stereoselection. The alcohol adducts were successfully converted to optically active oxazolidine-2,4-diones by hydrolysis. Mechanistic studies by DFT calculations revealed that alcohols could be activated by Lewis acids, enabling enantioselective protonation of the carbonyl ylides. The component allergens from sawtooth oak, which is a main cause of tree pollinosis in Korea, have not been extensively characterized except Que ac 1. This study was undertaken to characterize the allergenic components from sawtooth oak pollen and investigate the diagnostic values of each component allergen. Transcriptomic analysis was performed to identify the birch pollen allergen homologues from sawtooth oak pollen. Recombinant Que ac 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, and 8 were produced in an E. coli expression system. IgE reactivity to each allergen was examined by ImmunoCAP and ELISA using the sera of 50 Korean tree pollinosis patients. Six birch pollen allergen homologues were identified using transcriptome analysis, as follows Que ac 1 (54.8% identity to Bet v 1), Que ac 2 (79.7% to Bet v 2), Que ac 3 (24.9% to Bet v 3), 6 (71.3% to Bet v 6), Que ac 7 (80.9% to Bet v 7), and Que ac 8 (78.9% to Bet v 8). Que ac 1 sIgE was the most frequently recognized (84.0%), followed by Que ac 2 (12.0%), Que ac 3 (6.0%), and three other allergens (2.0% each). BEZ235 PI3K inhibitor Que ac 1 was a dominant allergen affecting 83.7% of patients suffering from allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, and 92.9% of pollen food allergy syndrome patients. Five novel IgE reactive components of sawtooth oak were characterized using transcriptome analysis. Que ac 1 is the single most important component allergen of sawtooth oak pollen.Five novel IgE reactive components of sawtooth oak were characterized using transcriptome analysis. Current WHO-EORTC classification recognizes different clinic-pathologic subsets of PCGDTL, but it suggests that cases showing a mycosis fungoides (MF)-like clinical presentation and histopathology should be classified as MF irrespective of phenotype for their indolent course. Herein, we describe a case of γδ-MF, featuring at onset a granulomatous pattern, with subsequent clinical worsening signaled by the development of an ulcero-necrotic lesion and systemic dissemination, leading to death in 5 months. Clinical progression was sustained by a shift to mature T-cell lymphoma composed of medium to large-sized blastoid T-cells featuring a t-cell receptor (TCR) silent immunophenotype. The oncogenic signaling pathway Wnt is often activated in many cancers including gastric cancer. Wnt signaling pathway is considered as a potential target for developing new targeted therapeutics. Kinase inhibitors are the promising class of drugs for many diseases including cancers. Toward identifying the potent inhibitors targeting Wnt signaling pathway, a kinase inhibitor library with 82 inhibitors were screened using Wnt pathway reporter assay in gastric cancer cells. Notably, 34 kinase inhibitors were identified to inhibit Wnt mediated reporter activity to the extent of more than 50%. The corresponding kinase genes, which are known targets of these kinase inhibitors, were investigated for their expression in the available mRNA profiles of gastric tumors. A major group of the kinase genes showed higher expression in intestinal subtype gastric tumors. Another group of kinase genes were found expressed in diffuse type gastric tumors. The kinase genes expressed in intestinal type gastric tumors were found associated with varying survival of gastric cancer patients whereas those expressed in diffuse type tumors were found associated with the poor survival. Thus, the kinase genes specifically expressed in intestinal and diffuse type gastric tumors and the kinase inhibitors to target Wnt signaling pathway in gastric cancer subtypes have been identified. We read with great interest the impressive multicentric study by Lamarca et al (1), concerning prognostic implications of multiple intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. We found however one very important methodological aspect that we think deserves further discussion, considering the authors' proposal of a revised staging system for this malignancy. Artificial neural networks show promising performance in automatic segmentation of cardiac MRI. However, training requires large amounts of annotated data and generalization to different vendors, field strengths, sequence parameters, and pathologies is limited. Transfer learning addresses this challenge, but specific recommendations regarding type and amount of data required is lacking. In this study, we assess data requirements for transfer learning to experimental cardiac MRI at 7T where the segmentation task can be challenging. In addition, we provide guidelines, tools, and annotated data to enable transfer learning approaches by other researchers and clinicians. A publicly available segmentation model was used to annotate a publicly available data set. This labeled data set was subsequently used to train a neural network for segmentation of left ventricle and myocardium in cardiac cine MRI. The network is used as starting point for transfer learning to 7T cine data of healthy volunteers (n = 22; 7873 images) by updating the pre-trained weights.
