Nowadays, therapeutic plasmapheresis (TP) is accepted as part of the treatment for specific groups of diseases. The availability of different methods, including double filtration and adsorption, increases selectivity for the removal of substances. However, the use of these techniques requires a thorough understanding of the characteristics and components of plasma. By considering pivotal papers from several databases, the aim of this narrative review is to describe the characteristics of plasma related to apheresis techniques. We have tried to cover the clinical implications including physiology, estimation of plasma volume, viscosity, and a description of its components including the size, volume of distribution, and half-lives of the different substances to be removed or maintained depending on the clinical situation and applied apheresis technique. Applying this knowledge will help us to choose the right method and dosage and improve the efficacy of the procedure by preventing or addressing any complications. Aerobic glycolysis (the Warburg effect) is a distinctive metabolic hallmark of colon adenocarcinoma. Ezrin was a member of the Ezrin-Radixin-Moesin protein family and has been found profoundly implicated in tumorigenesis. However, the specific functional roles of Ezrin in metabolic reprogramming of colon adenocarcinoma remain poorly characterized and need to be explored. The expression of Ezrin in colon adenocarcinoma tissues was screened by bioinformatics analysis and immunohistochemical assay. Si-RNA-mediated transfection and overexpression plasmid transfection were performed in colon adenocarcinoma cells. The proliferation viability was measured using MTT, colony formation, and EdU assays. The migration ability was determined using wound healing and transwell assay. The expression of EMT markers and transcriptional factors was detected using immunofluorescence staining and western blot assays. Glucose uptake, lactate production, and ATP assay were performed to validate the effect of Ezrin on glycolysis-mediated colon adenocarcinoma progression. Ezrin was upregulated in colon adenocarcinoma tissues and associated with poor survival. Ezrin stimulated colon adenocarcinoma cell proliferation, migration, and the process of EMT. Ezrin aroused significant increase in glucose uptake, lactate production, and ATP level in colon adenocarcinoma cells. Further investigations demonstrated that treatment with a glycolytic inhibitor 2-deoxy-d-glucose reversed the effects reduced by Ezrin on colon adenocarcinoma cells. This study aimed to evaluate acute injuries of the radial artery (RA) using optical coherence tomography (OCT) in patients who underwent coronary intervention via the snuffbox approach. Forty-six patients, who underwent coronary intervention and assessment of the conventional RA using OCT via the snuffbox approach, were enrolled from two university hospitals between August 2018 and August 2019. The mean age of the patients was 65.1 years. In this study population, 6-French (Fr) sheaths were used. The mean diameter of the conventional RA was 2.89 ± 0.33 mm, and the mean lumen area of the conventional RA was 6.68 ± 1.56 mm². Acute injuries of the conventional RA, after the snuffbox approach, were observed in 5 (10.9%) patients. Intimal tear was observed in the RA in 1 (2.2%) case. Intraluminal thrombi, without vessel injuries, were detected in the RA in 4 (8.7%) cases. However, medial dissection was not observed in the OCT analysis. Presentation of case reviews depicting the imaging characteristics of carotid paragangliomas, associated with a thorough analysis of the anatomical morphological features and the current therapeutic strategies. We present the cases of three patients diagnosed with carotid paragangliomas in our clinic, illustrating diagnostic imaging elements by computer tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), but also the postoperative aspect of the carotid system, with respective anatomical, clinical and surgical considerations.
