These observations indicate that flagellar calmodulin is involved in the occurrence of extracellular Ca2+ -dependent full-type hyperactivation in boar spermatozoa. This is the first indication of the intracellular Ca2+ -sensing molecule which can function in the full-type hyperactivation.A recent calculation study predicted acceptable toxicity in pelvic organs at risk for a new definitive-intent, moderately hypofractionated radiation therapy (RT) protocol (12 x 3.8 Gy), when used with image-guided intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IG-IMRT). We hypothesized this protocol to result in clinically acceptable radiation toxicities. Dogs diagnosed with and irradiated for anal sac adenocarcinoma (ASAC) were retrospectively assessed. Eleven dogs were included, six had prior surgery. Before any therapy, staging according to Polton et al. resulted in the following distribution stage 1 (n = 1), stage 2 (n = 1), stage 3a (n = 6), stage 3b (n = 3). We scored radiation toxicities at the end of therapy, at weeks 1, 3 and every 3 months after RT according to Veterinary Radiation Therapy Oncology Group radiation toxicity criteria. Navitoclax nmr Clinical follow-up was maintained on regular intervals combined with computed tomography (n = 3). Median follow-up time for dogs still alive was 594 days (range 224-972 days). Within 1 week post treatment, eight dogs (73%) developed grade 2 and four dogs (36%) grade 1 acute toxicity in the perianal region. All acute toxicities resolved or improved to grade 1 within 3 weeks after treatment. Late toxicity, for example, chronic colitis/diarrhoea, ulcerations, strictures or myelopathies was not observed in any patient. Five dogs were euthanized 105, 196, 401, 508 and 908 days after RT and six dogs were still alive, one in spite of progressive disease. The median progression-free survival was 908 days (95%CI 215; 1602). The previous theoretically described definitive-intent, moderately hypofractionated protocol using IG-IMRT for the treatment of advanced ASAC showed clinically acceptable acute and late toxicities. Feline atopic syndrome (FAS) is a common disease. Single intradermal injections of heat-killed actinomycetales have shown beneficial effects in canine allergies. To evaluate the clinical effects of heat-killed actinomycetales [Gordonia bronchialis (GB) and Rodococcus coprophilus (RC)], alone or in combination, in FAS. Privately owned cats with a diagnosis of FAS were assigned randomly in three treatment groups (GB, RC and GB/RC combination) or placebo. Five intradermal injections were performed over a one year period. At each visit [Day (D)0, D20, D40, D60, D90, D180 and D365], clinical signs, global owner assessment score, use of rescue medications, clinical adverse effects, skin hydration and cutaneous pH were assessed. Seventeen cats were enrolled. When compared to the placebo group and improvement in treatment GB was sustained from D90. When compared with D0 significant improvement in the GB group was seen from D60. Over one year, a complete remission of the clinical signs was seen in 30-67% of cats in the treatment groups. A reduction in the pruritus score was seen for RC after 365 days of treatment (P=0.04). Differences in the other variables were not seen. The use of multiple intradermal injections of heat-killed GB shows promise as effective and well-tolerated treatment for FAS. Because of the low cost and the lack of adverse effects, GB could be a beneficial treatment option for FAS. A larger study is needed to confirm these data and to evaluate the immunological changes occurring in the treated cats. The use of multiple intradermal injections of heat-killed GB shows promise as effective and well-tolerated treatment for FAS. The county-level traditional Chinese medicine hospitals have significantly expanded in recent decades. This study aims to assess the changes in the efficiency and productivity of the county-level traditional Chinese medicine hospitals and explore the possible causes of such changes. Sixty one hospitals spanning from 2001 to 2017 were selected as samples in this study. And a slacks-based measure of super-efficiency in Data Envelopment Analysis and Malmquist index were used to respectively measure the changes in the efficiency and productivity. The scale of sample hospitals in Hubei continuously expanded from 2001 to 2017. The mean values of technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency in 2017 were 0.686, 0.74 and 0.933, respectively. The technical efficiency changes in 2017 was 1.97 times that of 2001, and the technological changes in 2017 was 1.45 times that of 2001. The medical environment and resources have been greatly improved due to the expansion of the sample hospitals, but the technical efficiency value indicates that the operation efficiency of sample hospitals still needs to be significantly improved. Decision-makers are advised to attach importance to the efficiency of operation management and consider the impact of multiple factors on the change in productivity. The medical environment and resources have been greatly improved due to the expansion of the sample hospitals, but the technical efficiency value indicates that the operation efficiency of sample hospitals still needs to be significantly improved. However, a predictive biomarker for assessing the efficacy of anti-PD-1 antibodies has not been identified. In cancer, CD8+ T cells specific for tumor antigens undergo repeated T-cell receptor stimulation due to the persistence of cancer cells and gradually lose their ability to secrete interleukin 2 (IL-2), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and interferon-γ (IFN-γ). We aimed to evaluate multi-cytokine production and immune exhaustion of peripheral CD8+ T cells in melanoma patients treated with anti-PD-1 antibodies. Twenty-four melanoma patients treated with nivolumab were included. Effector cytokine production (IL-2, TNF-α, and IFN-γ) and expression of an exhaustion marker (PD-1) in patients' CD8+ cells were analyzed with flow cytometry. The relationships between parameters such as the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and clinical response to nivolumab were examined. Immunohistochemistry for programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression in tumor cells and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) and analysis of their association with clinical response were performed.
