Refractory COVID-19 patients were more likely to receive oxygen, mechanical ventilation, expectorant, and adjunctive treatment including corticosteroid, antiviral drugs and immune enhancer (P less then 0.05). After adjustment, those with refractory COVID-19 were also more likely to have a male sex and manifestations of anorexia and fever on admission, and receive oxygen, expectorant and adjunctive agents (P less then 0.05) when considering the factors of disease severity on admission, mechanical ventilation, and ICU transfer. CONCLUSION Nearly 50% COVID-19 patients could not reach obvious clinical and radiological remission within 10 days after hospitalization. The attraction is introduced through non-specific depletion interactions between the droplets and is controlled by changing the concentration of surfactant micelles in the continuous phase. We find that such attractive forces are not sufficient to induce any measurable modification on the scalings between the local packing fraction and the deformation of the droplets. However, when the emulsions are flowed through 2D microfluidic constrictions, we uncover a measurable effect of attraction on their elasto-plastic response. Indeed, we measure higher levels of deformation inside the constriction for attractive droplets. In addition, we show that these measurements correlate with droplet rearrangements that are spatially delayed in the constriction for higher attraction forces.The effect of the filler size on the structural and mechanical properties of an attractive fibrillated network composed of oxidised cellulose nanofibrils (OCNF) in water was investigated. Silica nanoparticles with a diameter of ca. 5 nm (SiNp5) and and ca. 158 nm (SiNp158) were chosen as non-interacting fillers of the OCNF network. These filler sizes were chosen, respectively, to have a particle size which was either similar to that of the network mesh size or much larger than it. SR-18292 mouse Contrast matched small angle neutron scattering (SANS) experiments revealed that the presence of the fillers (SiNp5 and SiNp158) did not perturb the structural properties of the OCNF network at the nanometer scale. However, the filler size difference strongly affected the mechanical properties of the hydrogel upon large amplitude oscillatory shear. The presence of the smaller filler, SiNp5, preserved the mechanical properties of the hydrogels, while the larger filler, SiNp158, allowed a smoother breakage of the network and low network recoverability after breakage. This study showed that the filler-to-mesh size ratio, for non-interacting fillers, is pivotal for tailoring the non-linear mechanical properties of the gel, such as yielding and flow.BACKGROUND Linear cutaneous lupus erythematosus (LCLE) is uncommon and occurs mainly in children and young adults. To our knowledge, only ten cases of LCLE in adults have been previously reported. A case is presented of LCLE of the left arm in a 55-year-old woman. CASE REPORT A 55-year-old Caucasian woman from the Midwestern United States presented with a three-month history of a pruritic linear eruption on the left arm. She had a previous history of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection of the left forearm. She had previously been treated with topical triamcinolone, hydrocortisone cream, hydroxyzine, and two courses of prednisone. Physical examination showed a unilateral and linear erythematous skin lesion of the left arm that contained papules and followed the embryonal developmental epidermal lines of Blaschko. Histopathology of a 4 mm skin punch biopsy showed an interface dermatitis with keratinocyte necrosis and increased dermal mucin. Immunofluorescence of the skin biopsy, including for antinuclear antigen (ANA), was negative. Prednisone treatment reduced the symptoms of pruritis but did not resolve the rash. However, following topical treatment with betamethasone dipropionate cream for between two and three weeks, and the use of sunblock, the skin lesions resolved. CONCLUSIONS This rare case of LCLE in an older adult showed a similar response to treatment as other forms of cutaneous lupus erythematosus, with treatment that included topical steroids and sun protection. Also, this case supports that environmental trigger factors, such as prior infections, might provide insights into the etiology of LCLE.BACKGROUND Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common primary malignant tumor of bone. The identification of novel biomarkers is necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of osteosarcoma. MATERIAL AND METHODS We obtained 11 paired fresh-frozen OS samples and normal controls from patients between September 2015 and February 2017. We used an integration strategy that analyzes next-generation sequencing data by bioinformatics methods based on the pathogenesis of osteosarcoma. RESULTS One susceptibility lncRNA and 7 susceptibility genes regulated by the lncRNA for osteosarcoma were effectively identified, and real-time PCR and clinical index ALP data were used to test their effectiveness. CONCLUSIONS The results showed that the expression levels of the 7 genes were highly consistent in the training and test sample sets, especially between the expression value of the gene ALPL and the plasma detection value of its encoded protein ALP. In particular, both the expression of gene ALPL and the plasma detection values of protein ALP encoded by gene ALPL showed a high degree of consistency among different data types. The identified lncRNA and genes effectively classified the samples proved so that they could be used as potential biomarkers of osteosarcoma. Our strategy may also be helpful for the identification of biomarkers for other diseases. We compared subjective assessments of contrast enhancement on CESM with enhancement kinetic curves on MRI. The results showed that the level of enhancement on CESM and type of kinetic curves on MRI depends on the lesion type.
