This work offers a novel strategy to explore advanced bifunctional oxygen catalysts for high-efficiency metal-air batteries. It is very important, but also challenging to produce high-activity, high durability and affordable non-noble-metal-bifunctional-electrocatalysts for sustainable energy application. Here, one-pot synthesized iron covalent porphyrin polymers (FePor-CPP), with carefully placed Fe, N atoms, a regular porous structure, Co3[Co(CN)6]2 and NaH2PO2 precursors were carbonized into N,P-doped carbon nanospheres with the active species of both bimetallic CoFe phosphides and CoCx nanoparticles (denoted as CoCx/(Co0.55Fe1.945)2P@C). By employing the CoCx/(Co0.55Fe1.945)2P@C as oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrode catalysts, superior catalytic activity is achieved with E1/2 of 0.84 V for ORR, and overpotential of 0.39 V at 10 mA cm-2 for OER in an alkaline medium, respectively. Furthermore, CoCx/(Co0.55Fe1.945)2P@C as air electrode for rechargeable Zn-air battery shows power density as high as 131 mW cm-2 and charge-discharge cycle stability, and this suggests the potential application of CoCx/(Co0.55Fe1.945)2P@C in energy transformation systems. The high electrocatalytic performances are revealed to originate from the change of electronic structure of bimetallic (Co0.55Fe1.945)2P via introducing P into the Co0.55Fe1.945 alloy, resulting in a decreased energy gap of CoCx/(Co0.55Fe1.945)2P@C relative to that of CoCx/Co0.55Fe1.945@C. This work proposes a versatile strategy to develop multifunctional non-precious catalysts for this kind of energy-related electrocatalytic reactions. Foamed surfactant solutions can clean surfaces! We hypothesise that the cleaning efficiency depends on the liquid fraction and on the stability of the foam. We also hypothesise that the cleaning efficiency is the better the smaller the average bubble size is. The double syringe technique was used to generate foams with varying liquid fractions but the same, very small bubble sizes with and without perfluorohexane in the gas phase. https://www.selleckchem.com/peptide/avexitide.html We performed cleaning tests in which the foams were applied to glass substrates contaminated with a fluorescent oil. We found that unstable foams clean better than stable foams. Three cleaning mechanisms were identified (1) imbibition at low liquid fractions, (2) wiping, i.e., shifting of the contact line between oil, foam and glass, at all liquid fractions, and (3) drainage at high liquid fractions. The change of the liquid fraction and of the foam stability lead to different combinations of these mechanisms and thus to different cleaning results. We found that unstable foams clean better than stable foams. Ice accretion is a challenging issue for various residential activities and industrial facilities. However, most of the current anti/de-icing coatings fail to maintain their properties when subject to frequent mechanical wear, and their limited functionality (either anti-icing or de-icing individually) cannot meet the requirement of all-weather utilization. Herein, a multifunctional superhydrophobic coating is prepared by compositing ferroferric oxide nanoparticles (Fe O NPs) with fluorinated epoxy resin via an inverse infiltration process. The surface composition, morphology and wettability are systematically characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), laser scanning microscopy and contact angle tensiometer. The anti-icing and de-icing performances are evaluated by investigating the freezing delay and photothermal effect, respectively. This coating shows outstanding water repellency (wrasion or 25 cycles of sand impact. Besides, because the hydrophobic nano/micro hierarchical structures tremendously retard the heat transfer, the freezing process of water droplet on this coating can be apparently delayed by up to 35 min as compared to the uncoated substrate. Moreover, owing to the photothermal effect of the Fe3O4 NPs, the coating's surface temperature can be rapidly increased above 0 °C under infrared irradiation, which facilitates the ice melting on cold surfaces. Our work offers a versatile approach to address the icing problems in diverse weather conditions, which exhibits great prospects in various engineering applications. The proangiogenic protein, survivin, is a client protein for heat shock protein 90 (Hsp-90), whose overexpression is induced by photodynamic therapy (PDT), leading to the inhibition of capase-9 and the blockage of apoptosis. The overexpression of Hsp-90 in cancer cells can rapidly acquire thermoresistance during photothermal therapy (PTT), leading to insufficient apoptosis, increased cell viability, and tumor recurrence. A potential approach to block the PTT-induced overexpression of Hsp-90 and the overexpression of survivin is developed by using an Hsp-90 inhibitor and anticancer agent, namely, geldanamycin (GM). These inhibitors also develop a mild-temperature PTT strategy to reach synergistic PDT and PTT efficiency. Thus, Cy7-SQ is designed by a covalent disulfide linkage between a photothermal agent (i.e., canine dye 7 [Cy7]) and a photosensitizer (i.e., squaraine dye [SQ]) for the improved photostability and thermal stability of Cy7 and SQ. The cleavage of the Cy7-SQ linkage by glutathione in a tumor microenvironment increases the efficiency of synergistic PDT and PTT. In the current study, bovine serum albumin (BSA)/Cy7-SQ/GM nanoparticles are developed through the self-assembly of BSA, Cy7-SQ, and GM to accelerate the apoptosis of cancer cells via near-infrared (NIR) laser irradiation, thus realizing Hsp-90-regulated synergistic PDT/PTT combined with chemotherapy.
