The quantitative analysis of andrographolides in plant materials is essential for pharmaceutical factories. This analysis cannot be done for all samples due to the conventional process using the extraction and HPLC methods requires a long analysis time and sample destruction. Therefore, near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) was employed to classify the class of and to determine the content of two active ingredients, andrographolide (AP1) and dehydroandrographolide (AP3) in , rapidly and non-destructively. One hundred twenty dried powder samples were obtained from aerial parts, branches, leaves, and branches mixed with leaves. The NIR absorption scans were collected from a broad spectral region (1000-2500nm). Then, the scanned samples were extracted and analyzed for their AP1 and AP3 contents using an HPLC reference method. The success classification model based on AP1 level was developed using the second derivative pretreated NIR spectra of the entire wavelength region using the Partial Least Squares-Discriminant Analysis (PLS-DA) method. The NIR calibration models were developed and tested for quantitative analysis with 50 independent samples. The models were identified for the analysis of the AP1 content with excellent performance (correlation coefficient ( ) = 0.98; standard error of validation (SEV) = 0.24%) and for the analysis of the AP3 content at a good level of efficiency (  = 0.93; SEV = 0.15%). This study showed that NIR spectroscopic method offers rapid analysis for the selection of that meets the requirement in bioactive amount. This study assesses the dispersion of cooking-related PM2.5 throughout a naturally-ventilated apartment in the US, examines the dynamic process of cooking-related emissions, and demonstrates the impact of different indoor PM2.5 mitigating strategies. ST-246 We conducted experiments with a standardized pan-frying cooking procedure under seven scenarios, involving opening kitchen windows, using a range hood, and utilizing a portable air cleaner (PAC) in various indoor locations. Real-time PM2.5 concentrations were measured in the open kitchen, living room, bedroom (door closed), and outdoor environments. Decay-related parameters were estimated, and time-resolved PM2.5 emission rates for each experiment were determined using a dynamic model. Results show that the 1-min mean PM2.5 concentrations in the kitchen and living room peaked 1-7 min after cooking at levels of 200-1400 μg/m3, which were more than 9 times higher than the peak bedroom levels. Mean (standard deviation) kt for the kitchen, ranging from 0.58 (0.02) to 6.62 (0.34) h-1, was generally comparable to that of the living room (relative difference 6 h for the bedroom. The PM2.5 emission rates during and 5 min after cooking were 2.3 (3.4) and 5.1 (3.9) mg/min, respectively. Intervention strategies, including opening kitchen windows and using PACs either in the kitchen or living room, can substantially reduce indoor PM2.5 levels and the related full-decay time. For scenarios involving a PAC, placing it in the kitchen (closer to the source) resulted in better efficacy.A rare case of thoracolumbar spondyloptosis after a severe polytraumatic event is presented. Spondyloptosis accounts for a minor proportion of all spine trauma cases and is usually accompanied by complete neurological deficit. A 48-year-old man suffered severe polytrauma after having been hit by a truck at the work place. Radiographic scanning revealed multiple traumatic injuries and spondyloptosis at the L1/L2 level in coronal plane. However, despite extensive injuries, ASIA score was estimated as D. The patient underwent urgent multidisciplinary surgery due to severe head injuries. The next surgery was performed to stabilize the thoracolumbar segment and to preserve neurological functions. The surgery included implantation of transpedicular titanium screws via posterior approach. Good postoperative recovery was achieved during early postoperative rehabilitation at our Department, which was estimated as ASIA score D. In conclusion, prompt operative treatment to achieve neural integrity and early rehabilitation should be considered as the gold standard in such complicated injuries. Postoperative recovery largely depends on the quality of rehabilitation, which leads to improvement of patient self-care and normal social and psychological functions. In our case, the good preoperative neurological status of the patient also contributed to better postoperative outcome. We report a case of trans-endoscopic transventricular approach to a large cystic craniopharyngioma. Surgery was performed three days after visual acuity on both eyes deteriorated to blindness. Magnetic resonance imaging before surgery revealed a large lesion in the suprasellar region that severely compressed the optic chiasm and displaced the third ventricle upward. The lesion was operated through the trans-endoscopic transventricular approach, with the aim of urgent decompression of the optic apparatus. At first, wide ventriculo-cysto-cisternostomy was performed, and then tumor tissue was removed. Postoperatively, visual acuity significantly improved on one eye. Our case shows that this minimally invasive technique is safe and effective and can be an alternative treatment for large cystic craniopharyngiomas. The reported case also shows that loss of vision can still be recovered even after the 72-hour period in adults.Although subacute sclerosing panencephalitis is almost exclusively a childhood disease, it can occur in adults as well. We present an atypical case of adult-onset subacute sclerosing panencephalitis. The disease was characterized by prolonged insidious course followed by accelerated and aggressive phase, atypical EEG findings, and absence of myoclonic jerks. The diagnostic and treatment-related pitfalls are discussed.Although collecting duct carcinoma is a subtype of renal cell carcinoma, several studies implicate association with urothelial carcinoma. The coexistence of collecting duct carcinoma and another renal neoplasm is rare. Endemic nephropathy is a renal disease causing chronic renal failure. It is highly associated with urothelial neoplasm and occurs in endemic villages in Bosnia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia. Recent studies have confirmed the important role of exposure to aristolochic acid as an etiologic factor. We present three cases of collecting duct carcinoma with literature overview. In one case, we describe collecting duct carcinoma with metachronous urothelial carcinoma of the pyelon and urinary bladder in an endemic nephropathy patient. To our knowledge, this is the first case report describing this coexistence. Certain similarities between collecting duct carcinoma and urothelial carcinoma were found, e.g., higher incidence in female compared to male, higher mean age, and multifocal and multicentric occurrence of the tumor.
