Osteosarcoma (OS), the most common primary malignant bone tumor, is a vastly aggressive disease in children and adolescents. Although dramatic progress in therapeutic strategies have achieved over the past several decades, the outcome remains poor for most patients with metastatic or recurrent OS. Nowadays, conventional treatment for OS patients is surgery combined with multidrug chemotherapy including doxorubicin, methotrexate, and cisplatin (CDDP). In this sense, cisplatin (CDDP) is one of the most drugs used in the treatment of OS but drug resistance to CDDP appears as a serious problem in the use of this drug in the treatment of OS. Thus, we consider that the understanding the molecular mechanisms and the genes involved that lead to CDDP resistance is essential to developing more effective treatments against OS. In this review, we present an outline of the key role of the long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in CDDP resistance in OS. This overview is expected to contribute to understand the mechanisms of CDDPce in OS. We investigated the histological characteristics of these calcifications and their association with CT findings, using post-mortem basal ganglia tissue from 22 patients. Eight patients had basal ganglia calcifications on histology, and six patients had calcifications on CT, varying from mild to severe. Four patients had calcifications identified by both histology and CT, and two patients had calcifications detected by CT but not by histology, possibly because of insufficient tissue available. Calcifications were found mainly in the tunica media of arterioles located in the globus pallidus, which suggests that incidental CT calcifications are vascular in nature. However, tunica media calcifications, and thereby incidental basal ganglia calcifications, are probably not related to atherosclerosis. Postoperative infectious complications have a negative impact on survival outcomes in patients with gastric cancer. It is recently reported that preoperative chemotherapy may eliminate this negative impact. This study aimed to confirm whether preoperative chemotherapy can eliminate the negative impact of postoperative infectious complications (IC) on survival outcomes and elucidate the association between postoperative infectious complications and recurrence patterns. We retrospectively reviewed data of 86 patients who received preoperative chemotherapy with docetaxel, cisplatin, and S-1 followed by R0 gastrectomy at the Kitasato University between 2006 and 2016. Patients who developed grade II or higher infectious complications during hospitalization were grouped into the IC group, while others were grouped into the non-IC (NIC) group. Survival outcomes and recurrence patterns were analyzed between the two groups. Infectious complications with Clavien-Dindo classification of grade II or higher were found in 12 patients (14.0%, IC group). The median observational period was 61 months. Overall survival and progression-free survival were similar in the IC and NIC groups. Recurrence occurred in 39 patients. The proportions of peritoneal and lymph node recurrences were not significantly different between the two groups. However, the proportion of distant metastasis in the IC group was significantly higher than that in NIC group (3/4 [75%] vs. 9/35 [17%], p = 0.04). A complex sampling design was used to ensure representativeness. BPT was assessed with the abbreviated-diagnostic interview for borderlines-revised, with the adolescent as an informant. Reliability coefficients were above 0.80. Several levels of severity were explored using an independent criterion, defined by impairment according to the Columbia impairment scale. The overall prevalence of BPT was 6.3%. Prevalence estimates for the most impaired were 3.2% for the entire sample and 1.3% for 12-year-olds.
