Timing errors are inevitable with Fresnel-based beamforming leading to higher sidelobe and clutter levels. To suppress sidelobe and clutter contributions, we also combine this with our previous technique, dual apodization with cross correlation (DAX) to improve contrast. Field II simulations are performed to evaluate spatial resolution and contrast-to-noise ratio and compared to standard DAS beamforming. Fresnel-based and gated transmit beamforming is also implemented using synthetic aperture data from tissue-mimicking phantoms. Lastly, a hardware proof-of-concept (PoC) Fresnel beamformer was designed, assembled, and evaluated with images from tissue-mimicking phantoms and initial in vivo images. Our approach differs from the usual global measure of cardiac efficiency by using PET/MRI to measure efficiency of small pieces of cardiac tissue whose limiting size is equal to the spatial resolution of the PET scanner. We initiated a dynamic cardiac PET study immediately prior to the injection of 15.1 mCi of 11C-acetate acquiring data for 25 minutes while simultaneously acquiring MRI cine data. The patient specific FE cardiac model with estimates of stress, strain, and work was transformed into PET/MRI format. 2) A 1-tissue compartment model was used to calculate wash-in (K1) and the linear portion of the decay in the PET 11C-acetate time activity curve (TAC) was used to calculate the wash-out k2(mono) rate constant. K1 was used to calculate blood flow and k2(mono) was used to calculate myocardial volume oxygen consumption ( MVO2 ). 3) Estimates of stress and strain were used to calculate Myocardial Equivalent Minute Work ( MEMW ) and Cardiac Efficiency = MEMW/MVO2 was then calculated for 17 tissue segments of the left ventricle. The global MBF was 0.96 ± 0.15 ml/min/gm and MVO2 ranged from 8 to 17 ml/100gm/min. Six central slices of the MRI cine data provided a range of MEMW of 0.1 to 0.4 joules/gm/min and a range of Cardiac Efficiency of 6 to 18%.The ability to extend the field of view of laparoscopy images can help the surgeons to obtain a better understanding of the anatomical context. However, due to tissue deformation, complex camera motion and significant three-dimensional (3D) anatomical surface, image pixels may have non-rigid deformation and traditional mosaicking methods cannot work robustly for laparoscopy images in real-time. To solve this problem, a novel two-dimensional (2D) non-rigid simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) system is proposed in this paper, which is able to compensate for the deformation of pixels and perform image mosaicking in real-time. The key algorithm of this 2D non-rigid SLAM system is the expectation maximization and dual quaternion (EMDQ) algorithm, which can generate smooth and dense deformation field from sparse and noisy image feature matches in real-time. An uncertainty-based loop closing method has been proposed to reduce the accumulative errors. To achieve real-time performance, both CPU and GPU parallel computation technologies are used for dense mosaicking of all pixels. Experimental results on in vivo and synthetic data demonstrate the feasibility and accuracy of our non-rigid mosaicking method. Numeracy is an area of difficulty for children with Down syndrome (DS). It has been demonstrated that The Number Race, a non-commercial adaptive computer game designed to foster basic mathematical abilities, represents a promising instrument to enhance these skills in children with DS when delivered by an expert in a clinical setting. In the present study, we assessed the efficacy of The Number Race when administered at home by properly instructed and remotely supervised parents. Basic numerical skills were assessed before and after training, as well as at three-months follow-up. Performance of children with DS who worked at home with the parent (PG) was compared with that of children who received the training by an expert (EG). For both groups, the training lasted ten weeks, with two weekly sessions of 20-30 min. Results show that both groups improved across various measures of numerical proficiency, including the overall score of the numeracy assessment battery, while only the EG showed an improvement in a measure of mental calculation. The improvements were maintained three months after the end of the training. These findings confirm the efficacy of The Number Race and extend it to an home-based setting, whereby parents administer the training with external supervision. These findings confirm the efficacy of The Number Race and extend it to an home-based setting, whereby parents administer the training with external supervision. Given the recent findings regarding the increased evidence for the presence of the alexithymia in parents of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), the construct of alexithymia in parents of children with ASD and its effect on adult romantic attachment style of parents, family functioning and parent-child relationship were investigated. The sample included children diagnosed as having ASD, developmental delay (DD), and 27 typically developing children aged 1-5 years and their parents. The Crowell procedure, an observational and structured assessment was performed, and the quality of the parent-child relationship was assessed using the Parent-Infant Relationship-Global Assessment Scale (PIR-GAS) based on DC 0-5. The Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20, Experiences in Close Relationships Revised, and the Family Assessment Device were administered to the parents. PIR-GAS scores were lower in the ASD group compared with the scores of the other groups. Family functioning rated by fathers of children with DD was lower than in the other groups. However, there was no significant difference between the groups in terms of alexithymia levels, and parent's own attachment styles in romantic relationships. ASD was found to be an independent predictor for disordered relationship between children and their parents. Appropriate family interventions focusing on enhancing social interaction and emotional development may be beneficial in the treatment of ASD.ASD was found to be an independent predictor for disordered relationship between children and their parents.
