Developments in image fusion technology made it possible to visualize the ablative margin on ultrasound (US). The purpose of the present study was to assess the ablative area of radiofrequency ablation for hepatocellular carcinoma and compare it with the ablative hyperechoic zone with a non-enhanced area on contrast-enhanced US/contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CEUS/CECT) in the same cross-section. This retrospective study included 25 patients with 27 hepatocellular carcinomas. The long and short dimensions of the ablative hyperechoic zone were measured using B-mode US, and those of the non-enhanced area were assessed with CEUS/CECT on the same cross-section measured with B-mode US, using image fusion techniques. The technical effectiveness of ablation with an adequate ablative margin in a single session was determined in all patients. The long and short dimensions of the ablative hyperechoic zone ranged between 15.0 and 40.7 mm (mean 27.3 ± 6.9 mm) and between 14.0 and 33.0 mm (mean 23.3 ± 5.8 mm), respectively. R values for the long and short dimensions were 0.99 and 0.98, respectively, between B-mode US and CEUS, and 0.96 and 0.92, respectively, between B-mode US and CECT. The ablative hyperechoic zone may be regarded as a necrotic lesion after radiofrequency ablation.Intra-articular injection is frequently used as an effective diagnostic and treatment tool for hip joint diseases. However, the underlying treatment mechanism remains unclear because of a lack of experimental animal models. A challenge facing researchers is how to accurately and consistently perform injections involving animal hip joints. The purpose of this study, then, was to establish an ultrasound (US)-guided intra-articular (IA) injection technique using rat hip joints and to evaluate its accuracy and feasibility versus a fluoroscopy (FL)-guided technique. For this study, 20 US-guided and 20 FL-guided IA injections were administered to separate groups of Sprague-Dawley rats. For each procedure, 50 μL of iohexol was injected into the hip joint using a 25G needle. The US-guided injections were performed using a linear probe, and the FL-guided IA injections were performed using C-arm X-ray fluoroscopy. All injections were verified by computed tomography imaging. A total of 106 isolates belonging to a variety of MNTs species isolated from clinical samples taken at the Complejo Asistencial Universitario de León for a two years period (2019-20) were identified following a simplified method (MALDI-TOF Biotyper Bruker®) developped in our laboratory. The resultant identification was compared to a parallel one ruled on the Centro de Referencia de Majadahonda. A total of 22 different MNTs species were tested, obtaining an agreement of 91,5%. Only 9 minor discrepancies between species belonging to the same taxonomic group of MNTs were detected. The score obtained in the 67.92% of the cases was higher than 1.8. A time-saving of 24 minutes compared to the manufacturer's proceeding was achieved.Mother's own milk provides personalized nutrition and immune protection to the developing infant. The presence of healthy microbes plays an important role in the infant's gut by programming the microbiota and excluding potential pathogens. This review describes the important components in mother's own milk that contribute to its superiority for infant nutrition and suggest potential strategies to replicate these factors in alternative feedings when sufficient milk is unavailable. Current strategies to supplement, substitute and replicate mother's own milk including microbial restoration, use of unpasteurized donor human milk, probiotics and fortification are discussed. Critical work remains to be done in understanding the human milk microbiome and metabolome and in improving lactation support for mothers of preterm infants.
