This kind of procedures imply for the clinicians to infer the 3D shape of the device from 2D images, which is known to be an ill-posed problem. In this paper we present a method to reconstruct the 3D shape of the interventional device, with the aim of improving the navigation. The method combines a physics-based simulation with non-linear Bayesian filter. Whereas the physics-based model provides a prediction of the shape of the device navigating within the blood vessels (taking into account non-linear interactions between the catheter and the surrounding anatomy), an Unscented Kalman Filter is used to correct the navigation model using 2D image features as external observations. The proposed framework has been evaluated on both synthetic and real data, under different model parameterizations, filter parameters tuning and external observations data-sets. Comparing the reconstructed 3D shape with a known ground truth, for the synthetic data-set, we obtained average values for 3D Hausdorff Distance of 0.81±0.53mm, for the 3D mean distance at the segment of 0.37±0.17mm and an average 3D tip error of 0.24±0.13mm. For the real data-set,we obtained an average 3D Hausdorff distance of 1.74±0.77mm, a average 3D mean distance at the distal segment of 0.91±0.14mm, an average 3D error on the tip of 0.53±0.09mm. selleckchem These results show the ability of our method to retrieve the 3D shape of the device, under a variety of filter parameterizations and challenging conditions uncertainties on model parameterization, ambiguous views and non-linear complex phenomena such as stick and slip motions. p62/SQSTM1 (hereafter as p62) is a stress-inducible cellular protein, which interacts with various signaling proteins to regulate a variety of cellular functions. OBJECTIVE This cross-sectional clinical study evaluated the associations between sociodemographic, occupational, clinical conditions, psychological and sleep quality variables on definite sleep bruxism (SB). METHODS All records obtained from adults (aged 20-60 years) and the elderly (aged >60 years) who had undergone polysomnography (PSG) at a private medical outpatients' clinic from July 2017 to February 2018 were reviewed. Data from a questionnaire, based on the criteria of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), were also gathered. Definite SB data pattern distribution was analyzed, and multivariate Poisson regression with robust variance was used to assess the associations between definite SB diagnosis, determined via PSG recordings, and the independent variables. A significance level of 5% was adopted. RESULTS A total of 240 individuals were included in the study and the SB prevalence was 7.08% (n = 17). The adjusted Poisson regression analysis revealed association between definitive SB and individuals with respiratory allergy (PR = 3.63; 95% CI1.01-13; P = 0.047) and restless sleep (PR = 2.97; 95% CI1.04-8.50; P = 0.042). CONCLUSION This study found associations between definite SB and clinical conditions (respiratory allergy) and sleep behavior (restless sleep). Knowledge regarding factors associated with definite SB can contribute to decision making in the clinical setting and management strategies involving a multidisciplinary approach. OBJECTIVE Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a high prevalent disorder with severe consequences including sleepiness, metabolic, and cardiovascular disorders. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of an individualized exercise-training (IET) program with educational sessions vs educational sessions alone on severity markers of OSA over an eight-week duration. METHODS This was a randomised, controlled, parallel-design study. In sum, 64 patients with moderate-to-severe OSA (apnea-hypopnea index AHI 15-45/hour), low physical activity level (Voorrips less then 9), body-mass index (BMI) less then 40 kg/m2 were included in intervention group (IG) or control group (CG), and 54 patients finished the study. All underwent polysomnography (PSG), multiple sleep latency test (MSLT), constant workload exercise test, blood samples and fulfilled questionnaires twice. The primary endpoint was the change in apnea-hypopnea (AHI) at eight weeks from baseline. Main secondary endpoints were daytime sleepiness assessed by questionnaire and objective tests. RESULTS No significant between-group differences were found for changes in AHI. A reduction in AHI was found in IG only (p = 0.005). Compared to CG, exercise training leads to a greater decrease in AHI during REM sleep (p = 0.0004), with a significant increase in mean daytime sleep latency (p = 0.02). Between-group differences were significant for weight reduction, severity of fatigue, insomnia and depressive symptoms with trend for sleepiness symptoms. CONCLUSIONS In adult patients with moderate-to-severe OSA, IET did not decrease AHI compared to the control group but improved markers of severity of OSA, in particular AHI in rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and objective daytime sleepiness. BACKGROUND Physiological changes during pregnancy are often accompanied by reduced sleep quality, sleep disruptions, and insomnia. Studies conducted among men and non-pregnant women have documented psychiatric disorders as common comorbidities of insomnia and other sleep disorders. However, no previous study has examined the association between stress-related sleep disturbances and psychiatric disorders among pregnant women. METHODS This cross-sectional study included a total of 2051 pregnant women in Peru. The Spanish-language version of the Ford Insomnia Response to Stress Test (FIRST-S) was used to assess sleep disruptions due to stressful situations. Symptoms of antepartum depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) were examined using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale-7 and PTSD Checklist - Civilian Version, respectively. High risk for psychosis was assessed using the Prodromal Questionnaire. Multivariable logistic regression procedures were used to estimate adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CI).
