Roussel and Raoult (2020) assessed the correlation between public positions taken by 98 doctors towards hydroxychloroquine and payments received from the Gilead Sciences company. The analysis presented has two major problems, the first of which can probably be fixed retrospectively, but the second of which seems irredeemable.Fetomaternal hemorrhage is referred to as the passage of fetal blood into the maternal circulation. Massive hemorrhage can cause severe fetal anemia, affecting fetal and neonatal outcomes. A neonatal hemoglobin concentration (Hb), which is reportedly a significant prognostic factor, of less then 5.0 g/dL has been reported to carry a high risk of poor outcomes (death and major morbidity). We present a case of massive fetomaternal hemorrhage with the lowest value of neonatal Hb ever previously reported in a survivor, who subsequently met all the developmental milestones at the corrected age of 18 months. A male infant born at 27 weeks gestation, weighing 998 g, presented with severe anemia with an Hb of 1.2 g/dL and an HbF level in the mother's blood of 2.4%, which led to a diagnosis of fetomaternal hemorrhage. Since there were no findings of hypovolemia, exchange transfusion was performed for prompt correction of the severe anemia without precipitating volume overload. The present case suggested that exchange transfusion might promptly correct anemia in patients with fetomaternal hemorrhage without hypovolemia without causing volume overload.Baló's concentric sclerosis is a rare variant of multiple sclerosis. It belongs to the group of primary inflammatory central nervous system demyelinating diseases having no clear etiology. Peculiar radiological findings on magnetic resonance imaging are alternating rings of demyelinated and myelinated axons resembling an "onion bulb." We report on a case of a patient with cocaine abuse who presented with Balò's-like acute multifocal leukoencephalopathy supported by histological and radiological findings. The abuse of cocaine and its most frequent adulterant, levamisole, may induce ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke and metabolic or multifocal inflammatory leukoencephalopathy. Only a few studies described levamisole-induced leukoencephalopathy mimicking Balò round lesions. Nevertheless, it has not yet been established the correlation between them; it might also be possible that the cocaine/levamisole addiction represents just a coincidence in some of those patients affected by Balò sclerosis disease.Pyoderma gangrenosum is a challenging disease to manage, due in part to the lack of approved treatment therapies. Recently, the emergence of biologic agents has expanded treatment options, with tumour necrosis factor alpha inhibitors being the best supported in the literature. In our report, we present a 50-year-old female with pyoderma gangrenosum who was successfully treated with the anti-interleukin-17 biologic agent, secukinumab, after failing other systemic therapies.Basal cell carcinoma is the most common skin cancer in the world and is generally treated when small in size with an excellent prognosis. Rarely, basal cell carcinoma will grow to be larger than 5 cm, at which point they are termed giant basal cell carcinoma. Giant basal cell carcinoma comprises only 0.5% of all basal cell carcinoma, but is associated with impaired quality of life and increased risk of metastasis. When a basal cell carcinoma grows to over 20 cm in size, it is termed super giant basal cell carcinoma. Here, we report a case of both a super-giant basal cell carcinoma and a giant basal cell carcinoma developing over 10-12 years on the upper back and anterior chest wall of an autistic male. Generally, this presentation is associated with neglect on the part of the patient. Tinlorafenib clinical trial This case report demonstrates a super-giant basal cell carcinoma developing secondary to patient neglect in the context of comorbid mental illness. To assess the proportions of respondents in the general community having heard or awareness, and their knowledge level, of three common eye diseases age-related macular degeneration, cataract, and glaucoma. We also attempted to assess for risk factors that may be associated with any variations, which will help identify the areas of inadequate knowledge and demographics of potential audiences for focused health education. We conducted a community-based pilot survey for the residents from a southern suburb of Hong Kong in early 2016, by inviting all aged 50 or above to complete a standardized questionnaire in the local community hall. Most of the 222 respondents have heard, or awareness, of cataract (92.79% or 81.98%, respectively), followed by glaucoma (86.94% or 52.70%, respectively), and age-related macular degeneration (51.35% or 29.28%, respectively). The results of Cronbach's alpha (α > 0.7) and Spearman's correlation coefficient (p < 0.01) suggested that the internal consistency, convergent a, of the disease. Despite a larger proportion of the community having heard or awareness since 15 years ago, much effort remains for improving health knowledge of these three eye diseases in Hong Kong. We recommend targeting respondents with higher lifestyle risks, such as current and past smokers or alcohol drinkers, as a focused audience, and utilizing family members, relatives, or friends as another way of distributing health information.Despite a larger proportion of the community having heard or awareness since 15 years ago, much effort remains for improving health knowledge of these three eye diseases in Hong Kong. This article aimed to discuss the emergence of medical device sector in China from a sectoral innovation system perspective, to explore the drivers and barriers to the successful building of an innovation system of medical devices, and to highlight the policy implications and suggestions for sustainable innovation of medical devices. A theoretical framework of sectoral systems of innovation was applied in the analysis of data, and materials were collected from multiple sources with particular attention paid to the evolutionary phases, structure, and function of the innovation system. The evolution of medical device sector in China could be divided into four phases initialization (1960s-1970s); exploration (1980s); steady growth (1990s); and rapid growth (since 2000). Through analyzing the innovation system's structural components of technology, actors, and networking, as well as institutions, this study indicated that the government policy decision was the most important driver that affected the virtuous cycle of the Chinese medical device innovation system, followed by market demand and entrepreneurial activities.
