These results indicate that the Cu efflux system can remove intracellular Cu ions from cells, and that the sulfur assimilation system is related to the detoxification of Cu ions. Furthermore, increased free Cu ions at lower pH (4) could induce communication signals among cells, thereby stimulating the response of T2SS-related genes in K. selleck inhibitor michiganensis to tolerate Cu stress. Consequently, the resistance of K. michiganensis to Cu stress is a multisystem collaborative process composed of intracellular and extracellular components.Evidence from numerous epidemiological studies for the relationship between mental disorder and sleep quality was inconclusive and few studies assessed the modification effect of exposure to ambient air PM1 (particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter ≤ 1.0 µm) on this association. In this study, 27,572 participants aged 18-79 years from The Henan Rural Cohort study were included in the final analyses. The Patient Health Questionnaire-2 (PHQ-2) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-2 (GAD-2) scales were used to estimate the frequency of depression and anxiety symptoms of all participants, respectively. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scale was used to assess night sleep quality and PSQI global score (GSC) ≥ 6 was classified as poor sleep quality. The three-year average exposure concentration of PM1 before the baseline survey was determined as long-term exposure concentration of ambient PM1. Logistic regression model was conducted to estimate the independent or joint effect of depression/anxiety symptr sleep quality in rural China. To investigate the defensive strategies of clam Cyclina sinensis in response to environmental ammonia exposure, we investigate the 96 h median lethal concentration (LC50-96 h) and the 96 h safe concentration (SC) of total ammonia nitrogen (TAN) for C. sinensis, and on the basis we examined glutamine synthetase (GS) activity, glutamine content, urea content and the antioxidant enzyme activities of super oxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) in 96 h at three different levels of TAN as 0 (control), 73.94 (T1) and 227.04 mg/L (T2). Results showed that LC50-96 h and SC for C. sinensis were 65.79 and 6.58 mg/L, respectively. The LC50-96 h and SC of NH3 were 1.70 and 0.17 mg/L, respectively. Ammonia exposure had significantly effects on SOD and CAT activities in the hepatopancreas tissue. Both the level of SOD activity and CAT activity increased with increasing concentration of TAN. No significant differences between T1 and T2 were found in GS activity from 3 h to 96 h after exposed to ammonia, whereas they were significantly higher than those in the control. Both the level of glutamine content in T1 and T2 increased significantly from 6 h to 24 h after exposed to ammonia and they were significantly higher than those in the control. There were no significantly differences were found in the level of urea concentration between T1 and T2 from 6 h to 96 h, while they were significantly higher those in the control. In conclusion, enhancing hepatopancreas antioxidant responses as well as converting ammonia into glutamine and urea worked in combination to allow C. sinensi to defend against acute ammonia exposure. In this work, the internalization and distribution of citric acid-coated magnetite nanoparticles (here, Fe3O4-NPs) in soybean and alfalfa tissues and their effects on plant growth were studied. Both legumes were germinated in pots containing an inert growing matrix (vermiculite) to which Hoagland solution without (control, C), with Fe3O4-NPs (50 and 100 mgironL-1, NP50 and NP100), or with the same amount of soluble iron supplied as Fe-EDTA (Fe50, Fe100) was added once before sowing. Then, plants were watered with the standard nutrient solution. The observation of superparamagnetic signals in root tissues at harvest (26 days after emergence) indicated Fe3O4-NPs uptake by both legumes. A weak superparamagnetic signal was also present in the stems and leaves of alfalfa plants. These findings suggest that Fe3O4-NPs are readily absorbed but not translocated (soybean) or scarcely translocated (alfalfa) from the roots to the shoots. The addition of both iron sources resulted in increased root weight; however, only the addition of Fe3O4-NPs resulted in significantly higher root surface; shoot weight also increased significantly. As a general trend, chlorophyll content enhanced in plants grown in vermiculite supplemented with extra iron at pre-sowing; the greatest increase was observed with NP50. The only antioxidant enzyme significantly affected by our treatments was catalase, whose activity increased in the roots and shoots of both species exposed to Fe3O4-NPs. However, no symptoms of oxidative stress, such as increased lipid peroxidation or reactive oxygen species accumulation, were evidenced in any of these legumes. Besides, no evidence of cell membrane damage or cell death was found. Our results suggest that citric acid-coated Fe3O4-NPs are not toxic to soybean and alfalfa; instead, they behave as plant growth stimulators.Desorption is one of the main factors causing groundwater and soil pollution. Therefore, the study of clay desorption characteristics is important for the prediction of groundwater and soil pollution. In previous studies, batch tests and column tests were used to study the desorption characteristics of pollutants on clay. However, the desorption parameters obtained via the two test methods were often quite different. To investigate differences in the desorption characteristics of different pollutants on clay particles and in compacted clay, batch and column desorption tests were conducted using cadmium chloride, fulvic acid, and sodium phosphate as the adsorbates and bentonite as the adsorbent. It was found that the unit particle surface area desorption distribution coefficients of pollutants on bentonite particles were approximately equal to the unit pore surface area distribution coefficients of pollutants in compacted bentonite. This indicates that the desorbed amount per unit of surface area is basically consistent, regardless of whether they are sorbed on particles or in compacted bentonite. A simple formula for determining the desorption retardation factor of pollutants in compacted bentonite is presented. The results of this study provide a reference for the prediction and evaluation of groundwater and soil pollution.
