Age, socioeconomic status, Charlson score, systolic blood pressure, body mass index, grade 2 or 3 diastolic dysfunction, moderate or severe left ventricular hypertrophy were significant predictors of hospitalization and ARDS (p<0.05). Our study reports a lower incidence on a COVID-19 cohort than previously reported. Predictors of poor outcomes included socio-economic, cardiovascular risk and echocardiographic measures. To quantify the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic's impact on public interest in sports medicine and surgery topics. The Google Trends analysis tool (Google Search Volume Indices [GSVI]) was used to collect search information regarding orthopaedic sports medicine terms ("ACL," "meniscus," "rotator cuff") and sports surgery terms ("ACL surgery," "meniscus surgery," "rotator cuff surgery") from May 2015 to May 2020. A time series analysis was performed for these GSVIs and compared to the timing of the pandemic. Interest in both sports medicine and surgery declined following the COVID-19 outbreak. Following the World Health Organization's statement on COVID-19's pandemic status on March 11, 2020, searches for "ACL," "meniscus" and "rotator cuff" declined by 34.78%, 43.95%, and 31.37%, and search for "ACL surgery," "meniscus surgery" and "rotator cuff surgery" declined by 42.70%, 51.88%, and 53.32%, respectively. The COVID-19 outbreak correlated with a decline in public interest in sports medicine and sports surgery topics, as measured by Google searches. Orthopaedic sports medicine and arthroscopy patient and surgical case volumes were negatively affected by various factors after the onset of the pandemic. One factor associated with the volume decrease is a decline in public interest.Orthopaedic sports medicine and arthroscopy patient and surgical case volumes were negatively affected by various factors after the onset of the pandemic. Pre-eclampsia and eclampsia cause the most deaths. Interventions for managing these disorders are available in health facilities. We assess the effect of monitoring pregnant women's blood pressure (BP) in their homes using village health workers (VHWs) equipped with a BP-measuring device on hypertension in pregnancy, in a resource-poor setting. Also, we assess the VHWs' competence with the BP device, acceptability and appropriateness of the intervention, and factors that affect the implementation of the intervention. This is a mixed method study comprising quantitative and qualitative data collection. We implemented the intervention over 6 months across three local government areas in Gombe state, northeast Nigeria. The Replicating Effective Program (REP) framework guided the development of the implementation strategy. The quantitative data include routine measurement of pregnant women's blood pressure and obser In resource-poor settings, health systems can train and equip non-technical people to identify and refer cases of high blood pressure in pregnancy to local health facilities on time. This may contribute to reducing maternal mortality and morbidity in these settings. In resource-poor settings, health systems can train and equip non-technical people to identify and refer cases of high blood pressure in pregnancy to local health facilities on time. Purple wheat bran protein (PWBP) hydrolysates were fractionated using size-exclusion (G-25) and ion-exchange chromatography methods to identify the structure of antioxidant peptides. The free radical scavenging activity of peptides purified from PWBP hydrolysates was evaluated using superoxide anion radical-scavenging activity and determination assays of Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC). Results demonstrated that purple wheat bran peptide F4-4 exhibited the highest antioxidant activity among other hydrolysates. F4-4 was further identified as Cys-Gly-Phe-Pro-Gly-His-Cys, Gln-Ala-Cys, Arg-Asn-Phe, Ser-Ser-Cys, and Trp-Phe by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) spectrometer coupled with Orbitrap Elite™ mass spectrometer (LC-MS/MS). Antioxidant peptides 2 and 4 showed improved stability when the temperature was lower than 80 °C. These peptides also demonstrated good digestive stability in vitro system by simulating gastrointestinal digestion. To pursue a systematic review and summarise the current evidence for the potential of transcriptome molecular profiling in investigating the preterm phenotype. We systematically reviewed the literature, using readily available electronic databases (i.e. PubMed/Medline, Embase, Scopus and Web of Science) from inception until March 2020 to identify investigations of maternal blood-derived RNA profiling in preterm birth (PTB). Studies were included if circulating coding or non-coding RNA was analysed in maternal blood during pregnancy and/or at delivery. Interventional trials were not included. The primary outcome was the availability of whole genome expression patterns evaluated in pregnancies resulting in preterm deliveries. A total of 35 articles were included in the final analysis. Most of the studies were conducted in high-income countries and published in the last decade. Apart from spontaneous PTB, a variety of phenotypes leading to preterm delivery were reported. Differences in sampling methods, ta and whether prediction of spontaneous PTB or co-morbidities associated with PTB is achievable. More emphasis on widely employed standardised protocols is required to ensure comparability of results.
