In this study, we examined biochemical responses of pistachio plants (Pistacia vera L.) to imidacloprid and phosalone as common pesticides used to control pistachio psyllids. Enzymatic characterization in treated plants with pesticides showed greater specific activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, guaiacol peroxidase, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase, glutathione reductase, and glutathione S-transferase compared with untreated plants during 14 days after treatment. Further experiments displayed elevated levels of total phenols and total proteins coupled with significant increases in proline and total soluble carbohydrate contents in treated plants in comparison to untreated plants. Moreover, pesticide treatment leads to a significant decrease in polyphenol oxidase activity. Nevertheless, no significant changes in contents of hydrogen peroxide, malondialdehyde, total chlorophyll, and electrolyte leakage index were obtained in treated plants. The goal of this study was to investigate changes in soil enzyme activity in response to salinization of a clay loam soil artificially polluted with cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) during a 120-day incubation experiment. Soil samples were polluted with Cd (10 mg Cd kg-1), Pb (150 mg Pb kg-1), and a combination of Cd and Pb, then preincubated for aging and eventually salinized with three levels of NaCl solution (control, low and high). NaCl salinity consistently increased the mobilization of Cd (12-22%) and Pb (5-16%) with greater increases at high (17-22% for Cd, 9-16% for Pb) than low (12% for Cd, 5-7% for Pb) salinity levels. While the increased Cd mobilization was greater in co-polluted (22%) than Cd-polluted (17%) soils, the increase of Pb mobilization was lower in co-polluted (9%) than Pb-polluted (16%) soils at high salinity level. A 60-year-old female with a 33-year history of type 1 diabetes mellitus and a 10-year history of renal replacement therapy underwent an SPK in 2015. At the time of transplantation, an abdominal aortic aneurysm with a high risk of rupture was treated by a Y-graft replacement prior to the SPK. Bladder drainage of the pancreas graft was chosen to avoid a vessel graft infection. The patient's postoperative course was uneventful. The patient was discharged on postoperative day 93 with good-functioning pancreas and kidney grafts. One and a half years after the operation, the patient was found to have acute graft pancreatitis and a leak from the duodenal stump of the pancreas graft due to a paralytic neurogenic bladder.
